Killjoys – A New Book from Desiring God

Somehow I missed this last week–a new book from Desiring God. And it looks great. It’s called Killjoys which DG describes as an “arsenal of Christian Hedonism against sin’s deadly lies. It was written to lead you deeper in love with our God and further into war against your sin. The truths, warnings, and promises in these pages are meant to chart a life-giving path to greater holiness and greater joy.”

I need books like that.  And this book in particular focuses on what are popularly called the seven deadly sins. In reality, these are sins that every believer fights against on a regular basis.  The the DG website explains that,

Our hearts were designed to enjoy a full and forever happiness, not the pitiful temporary pleasures for which we’re too prone to settle. Pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust are woefully inadequate substitutes for the wonder, beauty, and affection of God. They will rob you, not ravish you. They will numb you, not heal you. They will slaughter you, not save you.

Killjoys was written to lead you deeper in love with our God and further into war against your sin. The truths, warnings, and promises in these pages are meant to chart a life-giving path to greater holiness and greater joy.

Killjoys is edited by Marshall Segal, with the following authors providing each chapter:

“A Brief History of Iniquity” by Ryan Griffith
“Pride” by Jason Meyer
“Envy” by Joe Rigney
“Anger” by Jonathan Parnell
“Sloth” by Tony Reinke
“Greed” by David Mathis
“Gluttony” by Johnathon Bowers
“Lust” by John Piper

One of Desiring God ministries best virtues is there generosity. It’s no surprise that these are giving away the digital editions of this book for free. You can buy a print version, or get free downloads in pdf, mobi, and epub versions.  Here’s a final encouragement to get this book:
