Book Watch: Read the Bible for Life

I picked up a new book today that looks like it could be a foundational tool to use at our church in the coming year.  It’s called Read the Bible for Life: Your Guide to Understanding & Living God’s Word.

The book itself is a collection of essay on reading each biblical genre and applying it in different contexts and seasons of life (i.e, personal devotions, times of suffering, with family and with church).  Each chapter is written a someone who has previously done work in the field.

Contributors include Craig Blomberg, Darrell Bock, Michael Card, Scott Duvall, David Dockery, Buddy Gray, George Guthrie, Pat Guthrie, Danny Hays, David Howard, Bruce Waltke, Andreas Kostenberger, Doug Moo, David Platt, Mark Strauss, Gary Smith, and Don Whitney.

George Guthrie is the book’s editor, and has also written an extensive introduction, which you can read or download here (along with chapter 1).

EDIT: This book is part of a larger collection of resources for individuals and churches.  You can learn more at http://www.readthebibleforlife.com.

  2. Thanks for commenting, Dr. Guthrie!

I was glancing over the introduction to the book the other night and saw the other resources you’re planning to produce in this same range, and I’m very thankful for this project. Lord willing, it will help spark a renewed passion for God’s Word.

    Blessings!
    John
